Rules & Regulations

It has been found
necessary to re-draft our school regulations in line with Kenya’s new
constitution. All teaching and non-teaching staff to take note of the
following:
Corporal Punishment
Corporal punishment is unlawful in Milami Primary School. Article 29 of the Constitution 2010 states that every person “has the right to freedom and security of the person, which includes the right not to be… (c) Subjected to any form of violence from either public or private sources; (d) subjected to torture in any manner, whether physical or psychological; (e) subjected to corporal punishment; or (f) treated or punished in a cruel, inhuman or degrading manner.” Article 20(1) states: “The Bill of Rights applies to all law and binds all State organs and all persons.” Article 53(1) reaffirms that every child “has the right … (d) to be protected from abuse, neglect, harmful cultural practices, all forms of violence, inhuman treatment and punishment, and hazardous or exploitative labour” (Ref: Kenya constitution 2010.)
a. All teaching and non-teaching staff of Milami Primary School are subject to and bound by these rules and regulations.
b. That corporal punishment is outlawed is an undeniable
product of Kenya’s new constitution. It is a form of violence and the Milami
administration will not tolerate it. Any teacher found meting corporal
punishment on pupils will be dealt with accordingly.
c. Pupils and teachers should be in school by 7.00am every
day from Monday to Friday
d. Teachers and pupils are required to speak and communicate
in the English language from Monday to Thursday. Kiswahili is only allowed on
Fridays
e. Any teacher who does not report on duty without prior
communication or permission from the headmistress will forfeit part of her
salary for that month
f. Teachers, as well as pupils, must dress smartly while in
school. Male teachers must tuck in their shirts in order to inspire and portray
the right dressing code to all the rest of the school community.
g. All male pupils must tuck in their shirts while in school
h. The school administration shall not tolerate cases of
theft among pupils or other staff.
i. Use of mobile phones during lesson time is strictly
prohibited. Teachers are strictly not allowed to make calls or answer phones
during lesson time. They must therefore have their phones turned off. However,
they are free to use during break time while in the staff room or outside of
the school compound. Any teacher who violates this rule will have 1/3 of
his/her salary deducted for that month.
j. Parents are not allowed to interact with pupils or
teachers without prior permission from the office of the headmistress.
k. Unnecessary gossiping while in school will not be
entertained.
L. Pupils are not allowed to engage in bad behavior such as
bullying, fighting, and teasing others while in school and thereafter.
M. Teachers and pupils must act to prevent damage to school
property
N. The school compound as well as all classrooms must be
kept clean at all times.
O. Proper use of latrines must be observed at all times
P. Teachers must help pupils in both Nursery and Baby
classes to consume all their food and avoid unnecessary wastage.
Q. Pupils who fail to report to school without prior
communication from the parent/guardian will be required to report back to
school in the company of the parent /guardian.
R. Teachers are NOT allowed to leave the school compound
before the stipulated time.
s. Teachers are not allowed to wear weird gadgets such as
headphones, etc while at school.
T. Teachers must adhere to a proper dressing code in order
to instill positive influence in the pupils.
U. Teachers should be role models to be emulated by all
staff of Milami Community but NOT dreaded beasts to be evaded by the pupils.
V. NO teacher is allowed to report on duty while drunk. If
you must drink, please drink milk.
W. Sexual relationship between teachers and pupils is
PROHIBITED. Culprits will be reported to the police without prior warning.
